(ATLANTA, GA – 11/20/16) The Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations today thanked Georgia’s Muslim community for uniting to host a post-election community town hall meeting and self-defense seminar on Sunday, Nov. 20th, at 11 am at Al-Farooq Masjid.

“Although the 2016 election has ended, our social, religious and political activisim should continue,” said Edward Ahmed Mitchell, executive director of CAIR-GA. “As a united community, we discussed how we can stay active and involved while also protecting ourselves, our mosques and our families from harm.”

During the community town session hall led by Aisha Yaqoob of the Georgia Muslim Voter Project, Georgia Muslims discussed ways that the community can stay engaged moving forward, from political acivisim to interfaith outreach to protecting legal rights.

Audience members also participated in the discussion, asking questions and sharing concerns with leaders of various Georgia Muslim organizations.

Following the town hall, CAIR-GA hosted a self-defense panel featuring expert speakers who offered advice about mosque security, responding to an active shooter situation, and self-defense tips for women.
