(7/18/16 – ATLANTA, GA) The Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations joined seventy other faith and community leaders at an interfaith roundtable hosted by Fulton County Commission Chairman John Eaves in Atlanta.
During the event, Eaves asked participants to offer solutions to the divisions that have gripped the United States in the wake of police brutality, attacks on law enforcement, as well as terrorist attacks and hate crimes.
CAIR Georgia Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell suggested that, in an effort to build bridges, every house of worship hold a monthly interfaith open house, that every non-profit collaborate with different groups on their future events, and that government leaders like Chairman Eaves invite a variety of faith representatives to deliver opening prayers at public meetings.
Other participants included the Georgia NAACP, Black Lives Matter, the Anti-Defamation League, Roswell Community Masjid, and members of the Sikh, Hindu and Buddhist communities, among others.
