This is Edward Ahmed Mitchell, executive director of the Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

As you may know, CAIR Georgia has undergone a reboot in 2016. So have I. Only a few months ago, I left my career as a prosecuting attorney in order to serve, protect and advocate for Georgia Muslims full-time.

Since then, CAIR-GA has gone to work for our community, rebooted and rejuvenated. So far, alhamdulillah, we have:

  • Formed relationships with our leaders during a visit to Capitol Hill, where we lobbied Republicans and Democrats to oppose Islamophobia.
  • Image636026260849372047
  • Encouraged our community to become more politically active by hosting the Georgia Muslims Early Vote initiative during the state’s local primaries.
  • Image636026260850392971
  • Hosted free legal workshops, including Last Will & Testament Seminars, to ensure that all Muslims understand their rights and responsibilities.
  • Image636026260850823364
  • Built interfaith relationships with various non-profit groups, including the Georgia NAACP, Project South, and The Carter Center.
  • Image636026260851123636
  • Supported other American Muslim groups, speaking at a fundraiser for Zaytuna College, and raising $20,000 for CAIR-Alabama in Birmingham.
  • Image636026260851423908
  • Delivered a positive image of Islam during media appearances with NPR, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Fox  5 Atlanta, 11Alive News, CBS 46 and Channel 2 Action News, among others.
  • Image636026260851704162
  • Opposed terrorism by hosting an anti-extremism seminar that debunked common arguments used by terrorist groups to lure new recruits.
  • Image636026260851914348
  • Joined protests, rallies and vigils in support of social justice causes, including immigration reform, #OurThreeBrothers and the Syrian people.
  • CAIR Minnesota
  • Fought anti-Muslim bigotry by investigating cases of discrimination, and successfully rebutted public instances of Islamophobia.
  • CAIR Minnesota
  • United Atlanta Muslims across racial and cultural lines, bringing our community  together for a memorial celebrating Muhammad Ali.
  • CAIR Minnesota

Alhamdulillah. Indeed, we thank and praise God/Allah, for this progress, which has occurred in a short amount of time with limited resources.

Imagine what CAIR Georgia could accomplish with the resources to hire a full-time staff of Georgians dedicated to serving, protecting and advocating for our community, insha Allah.

    That’s where you come in!

In order for this work to continue, we need your support. During Ramadan, a time for fasting, repenting and giving, we ask you to donate in support of CAIR Georgia.
