(ATLANTA, GA – 4/25/2024) – The Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-GA), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the use of Tasers and tear gas to break up a protest in solidarity of Palestine at Emory University.
“CAIR-Georgia strongly condemns the use of force and arrests against peaceful protesters at the Emory student sit-in.
“Protesters shared a day of cultural learning and community despite which Emory deployed excessive use of force, tear gas, and rubber bullets.
“Emory University and APD fully bear responsibility for the violence we are seeing at the Emory campus right now. Students and protesters must be allowed their full constitutional rights.”
CAIR chapters nationwide have condemned police actions against peaceful protests against Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
CAIR-Georgia’s mission is to protect civil rights, promote justice, empower American Muslims, and enhance the understanding of Islam.
