CAIR-Georgia Calls Upon Alpharetta Police To Investigate Anti-Muslim Harassment Targeting Muslim Women in Alpharetta

(ATLANTA, GA, 4/1/2025) The Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Georgia), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called upon the Alpharetta Police Department to investigate the harassment and intimidation of young Muslim women on March 31, 2025 in a parking lot at the Avalon shopping center in Alpharetta.

The women were praying in a parking garage when a middle-aged Caucasian male reportedly began to stalk and harass them. The alleged harasser then parked his Tesla cybertruck near them and launched into a racist, Islamophobic and profanity-ridden tirade which the victims were able to film.

The unprovoked verbal attack occurred in the Alpharetta suburb of Atlanta, after the man spotted one of the young women peacefully praying, in accordance with her First Amendment constitutional right. The alleged perpetrator parked his car next to the woman and began to hurl racist and anti-Muslim abuse, yelling, “go back to your country,” “we don’t want you worshipping out here,” and “nobody wants your shit here.” He then questioned the American-born women about which countries they were from.

As the women began to walk away from him, the man allegedly followed them in his car threateningly, making incendiary and Islamophobic remarks like, “you are worshipping a false God,” “don’t come here from your poor countries and act like you will bring your shit here.”

CAIR-Georgia is issuing a warning to Georgia Muslims to remain vigilant at all times. Anti-Muslim incidents have risen by 7.4% nationwide last year, signaling a worsening climate of Islamophobia.

CAIR-Georgia’s Executive Director Azka Mahmood said in a statement, “The harrowing incident of anti-Muslim harassment faced by a group of young Muslim women in Alpharetta yesterday is a painful reminder for all American Muslims that Islamophobia is on the rise in this country. We are deeply troubled at this perpetrator’s blatantly racist and offensive remarks and have filed a police report. CAIR-Georgia will support the victims, including ensuring that Alpharetta Police investigate this matter fully and thoroughly. We urge Georgians to remain vigilant of their surroundings, not engage with racists, gather as much evidence as they safely can, and report all incidents to CAIR-Georgia and law enforcement.”

If you have experienced hate, harassment or discrimination, please contact CAIR-Georgia by filling out an incident report on our website (LINK). Community members should report all harassment and violent incidents to law enforcement.
