terry jones(ATLANTA, GA, 4/19/16) – The Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-GA) today said that the failure of an anti-Islam rally yesterday at the state capitol shows that the people of that state reject bigotry. According to media reports, only two people showed up to support the protest.

“This un-American hate rally was a complete and total failure,” said CAIR Georgia Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell. “We thank our Georgia neighbors for refusing to take part in the event, which was as ignorant as it was dangerous.”

Last week, CAIR Georgia called on Georgians to avoid the unsanctioned rally, where organizers planned to “desecrate” a Quran and “shred” images of President Obama and Attorney General Loretta Lynch while carrying assault rifles.

CAIR-Georgia calls on law enforcement officials to ensure that the extremist who organized the rally does not escalate his threatening behavior into actual violence.

“Hate crimes usually begin with hate speech,” Mitchell said. “We are concerned that this vicious anti-Muslim rhetoric could escalate into actual violence against Georgia Muslims.”

He urged law enforcement authorities to treat the anti-Muslim extremists who organized the unsanctioned rally with the same level of scrutiny that would have been applied to protesters from other backgrounds.

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
