(ATLANTA, GA, 12/13/2024) – On Saturday, Dec. 14 The Georgia Muslim community, anti-genocide and pro-Palestine advocates, and well-wishers, plan to welcome 12-year-old Habiba, the first child from Gaza to arrive in Atlanta, through HEAL Palestine, a U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated to providing medical assistance to Palestinian children.
Habiba was injured when her family’s tent was bombed by Israel on January 3, 2024. The explosion claimed the lives of Habiba’s mother, sister, her uncle, and cousins. Initially presumed to have perished in the fire, Habiba was miraculously found alive a day later. She sustained severe abdominal and cranial injuries, along with burns to her body. Habiba will undergo cranioplasty surgery in Atlanta to address the missing portion of her skull. She will be accompanied by her aunt.
Members of the press are invited to cover Habiba’s arrival and the community’s welcome.
