CAIR-Georgia Congratulates Winning Muslim Candidates, Calls Election Results a Rejection of Anti-Muslim Hate

(ATLANTA, GA, 11/4/2026)– The Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Georgia) congratulates the Muslim candidates who secured victories in Georgia’s 2026 midterm elections and commends the strong turnout among Muslim voters.

Among those elected are Akbar Ali (State House District 106), Farooq Mughal (State House District 105), Ruwa Romman (State Senate District 7), Shaikh Rahman (State Senate District 5), and Rahim Asani (State House District 108).

Throughout the campaign season, several political figures nationally and in Georgia made anti-Muslim rhetoric a feature of their political messaging and failed. In Georgia, gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson aired advertisements targeting Muslims and immigrants and lost. Georgia lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Greg Dolezal ran on an anti-Sharia platform and was defeated at the polls. Nationally, Texas Governor Greg Abbott attacked CAIR-Texas and Texas mosques and was not only stopped from doing so by the courts but was also voted out of his position as governor. President Trump and AIPAC’s attacks on Abdul El-Sayed failed to stop the election of the first Muslim U.S. senator.

The results of this historic election cycle underscore a broad and decisive rejection of anti-Muslim hate, discrimination, and division by the majority of American voters.

“Across the political landscape, Muslim Americans and their allies thwarted attempts to weaponize anti-Muslim sentiment for political gain, reaffirming that our democracy is strongest when every community has the opportunity to participate fully and equally,” said Azka Mahmood, executive director of CAIR-Georgia.

Muslim Americans are not outsiders to this country. We have been part of the fabric of America for generations, and we are here to stay. Our contributions, our faith, and our voices are an enduring part of this nation’s past, present, and future.

As we prepare to welcome newly elected officials at both the state and national levels following this election cycle, CAIR-Georgia also wishes to reaffirm its role as a nonpartisan civil rights and advocacy organization committed to protecting civil rights, promoting justice, and building a Georgia where all people can participate freely and without discrimination.

We welcome the opportunity to engage with newly elected officials and incoming leaders, working alongside all who share a commitment to equality, religious freedom, and justice.
