CAIR, CAIR-GA Commend Rep. Hank Johnson’s Vote to End $3.3. Billion for Israeli Military’s Crimes, Calls Other Members “Complicit in Genocide”

(Atlanta, GA, 07/17/2026) – The Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today commended Rep. Hank Johnson for voting to oppose $3.3 billion in new funding for the Israeli government and strongly condemned the twelve members of the state’s congressional delegation who voted to maintain the funding.

Democrats voting to maintain the funding were Reps. Nikema Williams, Lucy McBath, and Sanford Bishop. Republican members of the delegation who voted to maintain the funding were Rick Allen, Buddy Carter, Andrew Clyde, Mike Collins, Clay Fuller, Brian Jack, Barry Loudermilk, Rich McCormick, and Austin Scott. The House of Representatives ultimately failed to pass Amendment No. 8 to H.R. 8595, offered by Rep. Thomas Massie, in a 104-314 vote. However, a record number of members voted against the funding, including a majority of Democrats.

In a statement, CAIR-Georgia Executive Director Azka Mahmood, said:

“We commend Rep. Hank Johnson for being the lone voice from the Georgia congressional delegation that stood up against genocide and voted to stop sending American taxpayer dollars to aid the Israeli government’s crimes. We strongly condemn and are deeply disappointed in the 12 members of Congress from Georgia who voted to continue our nation’s complicity in genocide.

“American public opinion overwhelmingly disfavors the actions of the Israeli government, and voters are tired of sending American taxes to kill children and families overseas rather than being spent at home to improve the lives of ordinary Americans.

“The movement for justice must continue until U.S. policy reflects the principles of human rights, equal protection under the law, and respect for international humanitarian rights for all, including the Palestinian people.”
