(ATHENS, GA – 9/3/17) On Sunday, September 3rd, the Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations visited the Unitarian Universalist Congregations of Athens, Georgia, for a presentation about the similarities and differences between the Jewish, Christian and Islamic new years, as well as a Q&A about issues related to Islam and the Muslim community.
“We thank the Athens’ Unitarian Universalist community for working to build bridges with people of all faiths. Georgia Muslims can think of no better response to the world’s religious conflict than visiting various houses of worship, greeting our neighbors, and directly issues that sometimes divide us,” said Edward Ahmed Mitchell, executive director of CAIR-GA, which has delivered similar presentations other mosques and churches around the state. “Education is the best vaccine against discrimination.”
