CAIR-GA Joins Immigration Protest Outside ICE Headquarters

(5/26/16 – ATLANTA, GA) CAIR Georgia joined an interfaith demonstration outside the Atlanta headquarters of Immigration & Customs Enforcement on Thursday, May 26th. Religious leaders and immigration reform advocates united to call for a pause in deportations as well as an overhaul of the nation’s immigration system, particularly its treatment of immigrants fleeing violence in South America.

“As a former prosecutor, I understand and respect the need for law enforcement to uphold our laws, including our immigration laws,” said CAIR Georgia Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell. “But how we enforce the law matters. The law must be enforced reasonably, compassionately and justly. Breaking up families is not reasonable. Raiding homes is not compassionate. Deporting people trying to escape war is not just.”
