(ATLANTA, GA – 6/24/17) The Georgia chapter of the Council-American Islamic Relations today encouraged the Georgia Muslim community to continue hosting interfaith open houses and dinners, even after the month of Ramadan. During the holy month, CAIR Georgia delivered its Islam 101 presentation at interfaith dinners hosted by the Islamic Society of Stockbridge and the Islamic Community Center of Atlanta.
“We need not wait until Ramadan 2018 before engaging in interfaith dialogue with our neighbors,” said Edward Ahmed Mitchell, executive director of CAIR-GA. “Georgia mosques should consider holding interfaith open houses or dinners every month or so in order to build bridges, break down stereotypes, and answer questions about Islam and Muslims.”
Dozens of Stockbridge residents attended the Islam 101 presentation at the Islamic Society of Stockbridge on June 17th. Hundreds attended the Islamic Community Center of Atlanta’s annual Ramadan Interfaith Dinner, which was held on June 10th.
CAIR Georgia’s Islam 101 presentation covers who Muslims are, what Muslims believe, and what Muslims practice, as well as hot topics such as the twin threats of anti-Muslim bigotry and Muslim extremism.
