CAIR-GA Condemns Newt Gingrich’s Bigoted Anti-Muslim Hysteria

(ATLANTA, GA, 7/15/16) – The Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-GA) today condemned former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s call for Inquisition-style religious “testing” of “every person here who is of a Muslim background” and the deportation of American citizens if they “believe in Sharia.”
“When American Muslims pray to God five times a day, feed the poor, and obey the laws of our nation, we’re following Sharia, which is similar to Jewish halacha and Catholic canon law,” said CAIR Georgia Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell. “Yet Newt Gingrich wants to deport millions of American citizens, including the children of boxer Muhammad Ali and the tens of thousands of American Muslims who serve in academia, medicine and the military. Common sense forbids this lunacy. So does the U.S. Constitution.”
