Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam & CAIR-GA Host Panel Discussion To Explain, Counter Muslim Ban

Atlanta Masjid

Atlanta Masjid(ATLANTA, GA – 2/6/17) The Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations co-hosted a panel discussion with Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam to discuss Trump Administration policies that target Muslims, including the Muslim travel ban. Imam Sulaimaan Hamed moderated the event, which included remarks from immigration attorney Hiba Ghalib of Kuck Immigraton Partners LLC, attorney M. Khurram Baig, founder of The Baig Firm, and attorney Edward Ahmed Mitchell, executive director of CAIR Georgia.

“We thank Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam for uniting Georgia’s Muslim community across ethnic, geographic and cultural lines to explain and counter the Trump Administration’s Muslim Ban,” Mitchell said. “As Imam Sulaimaan noted, the President’s policies concern all of American Muslims, not just the immigrant community.”

The three speakers discussed President Trump’s executive order, which banned Muslim immigrants from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Libya and Yemen.

The order also indefinitely froze the Syrian refugee program, sending airports and travelers into chaos over the weekend of Jan. 29th. Since then, a federal judge has granted an emergency stay blocking implementation of the order.

“Our judiciary has reminded Donald Trump that he is the president, not the emperor,” Mitchell said. “Now students, workers, and other Muslim travelers whose lives were upended by this order should consider consulting with an immigration attorney and traveling as quickly as possible so they can restart their education, go back to work, or reunite with their families.”
